Best wishes to all our Central American birder friends affected by these multiple hurricane disasters

29:57
Puerto Lara, Darien CBC will be held January 5, 2021. Our 3rd CBC in the Darien in a Wounaan community.

31:45
thank you

32:48
My plan is to divide sectors into solo walking routes. This would provide great coverage, but will be very different effort/data wise than previous years

32:56
do we need participants to sign any type of waiver?

33:28
You mentioned that might be interesting, but also tricky in terms of comparison. How far off can we go from previous count effort?

33:56
If parties have drastically reduced, would you allow some counting on a second day? Indicate it as c/w?

34:15
Are you keeping a register of canceled circles? Who do we need to notify at NAS of cancellation?

34:45
Not a question, but just wanted to toss this out there for others to think about...I'm in a rural "city" and have asked for only local volunteers from the county participate

34:58
Geoff, if we follow that guideline to "still consider [a split-up territory] to be one party," how do you calculate party-hours if one person spends, say, four hours in the field, and another person spends two?

36:36
should we discourage brand new participants who are signing on for their first CBC

36:54
I’m also in a rural area and small club, so we have limited participation to those who took part in the count in the last two years (people we know, trust)

37:10
Birding is one of the most socially distancing friendly activities out there! People

37:15
just need to be responsible.

37:29
We usually have up to 250 participants—this is a big issue for us.

37:39
If you do cancel nation-wide, how/when will you let us know?

37:42
We are trying to achieve the same coverage but just with teams of 1-2 people, by invite only.

40:02
A few questions on signing a waiver - no requirement to ask participants to sign a waiver.

40:09
Quabbin count is January 2

41:04
Compilation gatherings can be done virtually on Zoom. There are free zoom accounts or other similar tools you can use for that.

41:33
Checklist order will be same as before, not updated yet.

41:35
Stupid question. Does “No new participants” mean folks who have never before participated in previous counts?

42:47
If because of COVID the CBC gets cancelled in the US, we will email compilers.

43:23
how do you get to the map page?

43:40
thanks for that information Kathy, it will be good to know from you guys if “you” cancel the CBC. this will NOT happen. (lol)

43:41
"No New participants" means you are not open to receiving participants who are new to your circles.

43:48
Is the checklist update in the works??

44:00
If we have canceled, do we leave the date blank?

44:22
Yes, Ricky - you can leave the date off

46:02
To share the online ESRI map with our sectors drawn on it with my participants, must they sign in using my (compiler) email? I don't see any other way to get them access to that map.

46:22
how do we get to the trend viewer?\

47:00
I can show you how to get to the trend viewer after Tim is done

47:10
Will there be a copy of this pp for us to share?

47:38
Is the raw count adjusted by team/hours, as in the past?

48:36
or "party hours" that is.

48:38
Ricky - also you do not have to let us know, but putting the fact that your circle is canceled into the compiler comments will show on the public map so others will know.

49:20
To share the sector map with your participants you can use the print function and send them the printed map

50:17
Hi Tim - yes, the data are always effort adjusted.

50:41
Are the species counts adjusted by any other variables besides party hours, such as weather?

51:20
Hi Vishnu yes, even if we have to officially cancel things here you'll be able to enter your data from Trinidad.

52:48
We have 15 sectors in our circle, Kathy, and printing the entire map does not allow one to see the street names, landmarks, etc that illuminate the sector boundaries. When I select a sector and try to print it, the zoom steps are so large that the resulting map is either too zoomed out to see the streets etc or so close that pieces of the sector are chopped off. I wish the zoom function was continuous.

55:00
This year I sent the sector maps in multiple pieces when necessary, and the team leaders have reacted very positively, so it's not a big problem. But I wondered if I was missing another way to share. Thanks for the info.

55:27
Hi Steve - yes, the CBC trend data are available to anyone and can be downloaded through the screen Tim is showing.

56:02
Question: what parameters are weighed in determining if a trend exists?

56:38
The Trends Viewer is a very nice additional Thanks.

57:01
When will you include Central America?

57:16
this is incredible! thank you!!

58:36
Can you drill down to state or even circle. Also, where can we access Archives?

59:03
The CBC Trends viewer is on the public CBC web site so it is available to everyone.

59:05
“Observer Variability” we have the same people, but they are not able to talk to each other.

01:03:13
The Field Form spreadsheet I send to team leaders includes the weather report data. Is it OK to simply do one report myself, as compiler, for our entire circle?

01:03:56
Hi Paul - not we are not thinking of canceling it at this time but if we find we must in the future, we will email compilers.

01:04:16
usually people bring their bird lists to a compilation meeting.. are there any CBCs using google forms or other methods being developed to compile the data ?

01:04:49
How are you dealing with feeder watcher data?

01:04:58
In addition to party hours, what other variables are used to make effort adjustments?

01:05:53
Is the 120th summary available yet?

01:06:43
Hi Ken, yes, it is being recorded.

01:08:39
The new CBC Trends Viewer can be found on this page: https://www.audubon.org/conservation/where-have-all-birds-gone

01:09:42
What is the effort is dramatically different? I’m excited to have a primarily walking count, but the data will be very different.

01:10:20
This is very confusing. It's going to be vary hard to explain this to our participants.

01:10:40
Thanks for helping provide clarity! I just don’t want to mess with the data set

01:11:07
When will the 2019results be ready to view?

01:11:16
A written guide will be excellent—thank you!

01:11:21
“Observer Variability” is my greatest concern. We will have same EFFORT but not the access to our experienced birders giving us the correct species or finding the birds in the habitat.

01:11:39
I suggest that you recommend to try to stick with the same number of teams, event if you have to downsize the participants per team.

01:11:40
it's a weird year here because 60% of our count circle burned to the ground.

01:11:49
I would assume the yard counters’ data, etc. remain the same.

01:12:35
Are feeder count statistics included in the trends?

01:13:45
Yes, feeder/yard effort will be much higher this year for us

01:15:32
Can you comment on any effort to somehow integrate eBird with CBC so that the eBird tool can be used to report on count areas and circles?

01:15:33
@Steve Hampton - Yikes! Good luck to all of you. Put "phoenix" on your species list?

01:15:43
Pardon me if this virtual meeting has happened in years past, but I am joining for the first time and love it! I hope we can do it every year Covid or not! Thank you!

01:16:13
When can we expect an updated data entry tool?

01:16:31
I just want to applaud this group for getting us together…something I’ve been wanting for many years. We have lots of wisdom to share, with you and with each other!

01:16:39
Does count week counts get included in the trends?

01:16:57
The data entry tool works well for me.

01:17:09
Thanks ya’ll!!

01:17:27
Thank you panelists for your information. Maybe this gathering can be done each year. Appreciated.

01:17:27
Thank you for creating this event!

01:17:27
Thanks for conducting the webinar. Please do this again next year!

01:17:32

Thank you for all of your help!

01:18:03
This has indeed been extremely helpful, and I hope it will be an annual event.

01:18:10
Let’s do more of these. Can we set up a “Google Group” for us all to share best practices and ask questions?

01:18:11
how many of us are there ?

01:18:13
George in Pendleton Oregon - thank you, good presentation.

01:18:14
I would like to see more of these meetings in the future.

01:18:15
Thank you Geoff.

01:18:16
Wonderful to hear the details. Thank you Audubon

01:18:17
Thank you so much. Please continue in the future.

01:18:21
this was very helpful. hope you can consider using in non-covid times (jah willing)

01:18:25
Thank you!!!

01:18:36
from Boston CBC, thanks

01:18:47
Thank you!

01:18:48
Thank you Audubon

01:18:50
Thanks all!

01:18:51
think carefully about having compilers lump parties-- compliance will be erratic and hours will self correct.
